VENUS PASSING THE SUN

VENUS PASSING THE SUN

About 100 students and parents showed up on the High School lawn at 6:30 AM on Tuesday, June 8th, 2004 to watch Venus pass in front of the Sun. There were at least a dozen volunteers with telescopes so everyone had a nice view before the clouds rolled in and we had to go on to school or work.

A nice person helped me take these photos through his telescope.

This tree is here because it was the color of the sun as seen through the telescope. What a beautiful tree! It was probably planted in the cemetery many years ago as it is a slow growing tree. It is a Flame Azalea! A member of the Rhododendron family. It comes in several colors but this orange is just astounding.

Babe looks pretty sad. He is lonely among all these kids.

He has started to eat so I think he is reasonably comfortable.
